Maine’s congressional delegation has reintroduced the Relief for Farmers Hit with PFAS Act, which would provide federal grants to help states test, remediate, and respond to PFAS contamination on farmland. Maine has led national efforts to address PFAS, but lawmakers say farmers need more support as contamination threatens their land, income, and health. The bill would expand testing, fund farmer assistance and education, support new remediation research, and create a USDA task force to coordinate resources for affected farms.
