1. Share Your Story
If you or your community have been impacted by PFAS contamination—or live in fear of its effects—your voice matters. Personal stories help legislators understand the real-world consequences of inaction.

2. PFAS Threaten Human Health
PFAS chemicals are linked to serious health issues, including cancer, weakened immune systems, thyroid disease, and developmental delays in children. The scientific evidence of PFAS’s harm to human health continues to grow, and the risks are too serious to ignore. Maine must act urgently to limit exposure and clean up existing contamination.

3. PFAS Are Persistent and Ubiquitous
PFAS, often called “forever chemicals,” do not break down easily. They accumulate in water, soil, wildlife, and our bodies, persisting for generations. These substances have already been detected in communities across Maine, threatening public health, agriculture, and ecosystems.

4. Protect Maine’s Future
Every Mainer deserves clean air, safe drinking water, and toxin-free food. Protecting public and environmental health from PFAS contamination is not just a scientific or regulatory issue—it’s a moral responsibility. The legislature must act decisively to safeguard our communities, farms, and natural resources.

Note: If you plan to offer spoken testimony in person or over Zoom, you will have three minutes to speak to the committee. For many people, that equates to about ¾ of a page of written text. How To Submit Your Testimony

Submit Written Testimony

  1. Write your letter to the legislature. (See Sample Testimony above for ideas)
  2. Go to the Testimony Submission page.
  3. Select “Public Hearing” and choose the correct committee (likely the “Environment and Natural Resources Committee”).
  4. Select the hearing date.
  5. Pick the correct bill(s). Note: If you are testifying for multiple bills, submit your testimony separately for each. You can use the same letter for all or write separate testimonies for each.
  6. Upload or type your testimony letter directly into the form.
  7. Enter your contact information into the form. 
  8. Hit Submit.

Testify Live on Zoom

  1. Draft your message to the legislature (See  Sample Testimony above for ideas)
  2. Go to the Testimony Submission page.
  3. Select “Public Hearing” and choose the correct committee (likely the “Environment and Natural Resources Committee”).
  4. Select the hearing date.
  5. Pick the correct bill(s). Note: If you are testifying for multiple bills, you only need to select one bill here. You may speak on all bills during your live testimony. 
  6. Check the box for electronic testimony if attending via Zoom.
  7. Optional: Upload or type your testimony letter directly into the form.
  8. Enter your contact information into the form. 
  9. Hit Submit.
  10. On the day of the public hearing, log onto Zoom using the link emailed to you by the Legislative Information Office.

Testify Live In-Person

  2. Go to the Testimony Submission page.
  3. Select “Public Hearing” and choose the correct committee (likely the “Environment and Natural Resources Committee”).
  4. Select the hearing date.
  5. Pick the correct bill(s). Note: If you are testifying for multiple bills, you only need to select one bill here. You may speak on all bills during your live testimony. 
  6. Do NOT enter your testimony into the form. 
  7. Enter your contact information into the form. 
  8. Hit Submit.
  9. On the date of the public hearing, bring 20 printed copies of your testimony to the State House and hand them in.
  10. When it is your turn, speak from your notes (and any inspiration that may come to you in the moment)!
