Research to Action is a process that involves taking information gathered in research efforts and translating it into actions that benefit communities, populations, and/or the environment. These actions can take the form of policy, practice, and public good. Research to Action can take place in different contexts, including Citizen Science and Community Engaged Research.

Research to Action efforts are underway in Maine to help communities deal with the issue of PFAS contamination of soil and water and the implications for public health. Citizen science efforts involve engaging community members in collecting water samples for analysis of PFAS to help address researcher questions about PFAS sources and movement of PFAS in the environment. Community-engaged research efforts involve responding to community concerns about PFAS, including them in articulating research questions and collaborating with them in addressing those questions.
